Pallet Calculator

Estimate cartons per pallet with six simple orientations, cargo height and optional payload constraints.

How it works

Use the clear inside dimensions of the receiving carton or crate as the available space. Use the outside dimensions of the item that goes inside, including its own wrapping or protective sleeve.

Each of the six axis-aligned item orientations is tested against the same space. Only whole positions count. A fraction of a position at an edge cannot hold another complete rectangular item.

Quantity lets you compare your intended pack with the tested capacity. Optional weight information adds another constraint. The same geometric engine powers the pallet and container tools so the orientation logic stays consistent.

Formula

Fit = max of six tested orientations [floor(space L ÷ item L) × floor(space W ÷ item W) × floor(space H ÷ item H)]

Inputs are normalized before calculation. Results are rounded for display.

Worked example

An interior space of 60 × 40 × 40 cm can hold 48 items measuring 20 × 10 × 10 cm in a 3 × 4 × 4 arrangement. If 30 items are requested, 18 geometric positions remain unused.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The outer carton’s printed size may not be its usable internal size.
  • Cushioning, partitions, manufacturing tolerance and insertion clearance are not deducted automatically.
  • Diagonal packing, nesting, deformation and mixed orientations are outside this model.

Frequently asked questions

Which dimensions belong in the available-space fields?

The clear internal dimensions after any liners or dividers. Outside carton dimensions overstate the space available to the contents.

Why can leftover volume still have no remaining positions?

The leftover space may be split into strips too narrow for a complete item. Volume alone does not describe the geometry of those gaps.

Can the result be used for upright-only products?

Only if the selected orientation is allowed for that product. This simple model assumes every axis-aligned rotation is permitted.
